This policy covers the Wilderness Times connector for AI assistants at mcp.wildernesstimes.com (the "connector"), which lets assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude look up our packing checklists and gear recommendations for you. It explains what the connector receives, why, who else is involved, how long anything is kept and what you can do about it. The wildernesstimes.com website has its own privacy policy.
- No account, no sign-up and no cookies on the connector.
- We receive only what your assistant sends to answer your question. We never receive your name, email address, account details or the rest of your conversation.
- The connector has no database. We don't store your questions or the answers.
- Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, sees basic request details (such as the IP address of whoever is calling, usually your assistant provider) to deliver and protect the service.
- We don't sell or share your information for advertising, and the connector shows no ads.
Who we are
The connector is published by Group Eighteen LLC, which operates Wilderness Times (wildernesstimes.com). "We," "us" and "our" mean Group Eighteen LLC. Contact: contact@wildernesstimes.com, 21001 N Tatum Blvd Ste 1630 #934, Phoenix, AZ 85050, USA.
1. Information the connector receives
Tool inputs. When your assistant decides to use the connector, it sends the details needed for that request, and only those. Depending on the tool, that is:
- Checklists (list, get, build, share, PDF): the activity (for example "backpacking"), any sections to keep, items to leave out, items to add, and for shared lists an optional name for the list (for example "Yosemite, October").
- Gear search (find_gear): your search words (for example "tent for a family of 4") and optional filters for a tent's size, how many people it realistically sleeps, seasons, maximum weight, whether to include discontinued models, and how many results to return.
- Gear details (get_gear): the id and kind of one tent or product from an earlier search.
Most of these are fixed choices, but items you add, list names and search words are free text written by you or your assistant. Please don't put personal information in them. The connector doesn't ask for any.
Request details. Like any website, each request reaches our servers with technical information: the IP address it comes from (normally your assistant provider's servers, not your own device), the approximate location and network derived from that address, the user-agent of the calling software, the time, and protocol headers.
What we never receive: your name, email address, phone number, payment details, assistant account details, location from your device, or anything else from your conversation beyond the inputs above.
2. Information the connector returns
Answers (tool outputs) contain only Wilderness Times content: checklists, tent scores and specs, review summaries, the names of retailers that stock an item, and links. They contain no information about you, with one exception: a share link created by share_checklist carries your checklist, including any items you added and the list name, encoded inside the link itself. Anyone you give that link to can read that list.
Links in answers point to wildernesstimes.com and its checklist builder at checklist.wildernesstimes.com, and carry tags (utm_source=mcp, utm_medium=chat and a campaign naming the activity) that tell us a visit came from an AI assistant. Answers never contain links to retailers.
3. How we use it
- To answer your request: tool inputs are used, in memory, to look up the checklist or gear you asked for and build the answer.
- To operate and protect the service: the calling IP address is used to limit how many requests any one client can make per minute, and request details are used to keep the connector secure and working (for example, blocking abusive traffic and diagnosing errors).
- To measure usefulness: the tags on our links let us count, in aggregate, how often people visit our website from the connector.
We don't use anything from the connector to build profiles, target advertising or train AI models, and we don't sell it.
4. Who receives it
- Your AI assistant provider (for example OpenAI or Anthropic) sends your request to us and receives our answer. Your conversation is handled by that company under its own privacy policy; we don't control what it stores or how it uses your conversation.
- Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the connector and provides its security and traffic analytics. It processes request details on our behalf as our service provider. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Our websites, if you open a link. wildernesstimes.com and checklist.wildernesstimes.com use Google Analytics, which records the pages you visit, including the tags above and, for a share link, the link address with your list encoded in it. Google Analytics sets cookies and receives your IP address, device and browser details, and we use it only to measure how our pages are used. Google retains that data under our account's retention setting and its own privacy policy. Advertising on wildernesstimes.com is described in the Wilderness Times privacy policy. Retailer sites you go on to visit have their own policies; as an Amazon Associate, Wilderness Times earns from qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you.
- Legal and safety reasons: we may disclose information if the law requires it or to protect the rights and safety of people or the service.
We don't share connector data with anyone else.
5. How long it is kept
- Tool inputs and answers: not stored by us. They exist only while your request is being answered, then are discarded. The connector has no database and keeps no logs of what was asked.
- Request details: kept by Cloudflare in its security and traffic analytics for our domain for a limited period under Cloudflare's own retention schedule, then deleted. We do not export or keep copies of them. The rate-limit counters last about a minute.
- Share links: nothing is stored on any server. The list lives only in the link, for as long as someone keeps the link.
6. Your choices and controls
- Turn it off: you can disconnect the connector at any time in your assistant's settings (for example Settings → Connectors or Apps), and your assistant then stops sending it anything.
- Keep personal details out: avoid personal information in list names, added items and searches.
- Links are optional: nothing reaches our websites or Google Analytics unless you open a link, and you can block analytics with your browser settings or the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
- Ask us: email contact@wildernesstimes.com with any question or request about your information, including access, correction or deletion. We'll respond within 30 days. Because we keep no request data, there is usually nothing for us to retrieve, and we'll tell you so. Depending on where you live (for example California, the EU or the UK), you may have additional rights, including the right to complain to your local data protection authority, and we honor them.
7. Security and international processing
All traffic to the connector is encrypted with HTTPS. Cloudflare runs a global network, so requests may be processed in data centers outside your country, including in the United States.
8. Children
The connector is suitable for all ages but is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone through it.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change how the connector handles information, for example by adding accounts or saving checklists, we'll update this page and the effective date above before the change takes effect.
